How much sample is enough for analysis?

When testing my crop, what part of the plant should I sample?

For the purpose of THC potency testing for legal compliance, the USDA has issued strict sampling instructions. They read:

“The cut shall be made just underneath a flowering material…. located at the top one-third (1/3) of the plant. (See figure below.)”

However, for potency testing for purposes other than legal compliance, you may want to collect a more representative sample of your crop (from the top, middle, and bottom of the plant). This is common if you’re testing to ascertain the total CBD potency of your plants as you prepare your crop for sale.

How do I ship samples to New Bloom Labs?

Always use the US Postal Service, which is very friendly to the hemp industry. Never use UPS or FedEx, as these carriers will likely confiscate your parcel during transit. You may also drop off samples directly to our laboratory. Our hours are 9a-5p EST, M-F. However, we do offer an after-hours drop-off slot at our front door.

What container should I use?

Plant material should be placed in any paper container. We are happy to provide you with free sample bags. Simply request a Sample Shipping Kit on our website. If you are sending liquids for testing, we recommend a plastic vessel. One that works particularly well is sold online at pipette.com (20mL Liquid Scintillation Vial, Stock Number 986734).

How do I pay for my tests?

You may fill out the lower portion of your order form with credit card information that we will keep on file, or provide payment in each parcel in the form of a check or money order.

How will I receive my results?

We will email your results in the form of Certificate of Analysis as soon as they are ready. Your crop data will also be stored in your personal Confident Cannabis account. You will receive an email invitation to create a Confident Cannabis account when we receive your first order.

What happens if my sample contains higher than 0.3% Delta-9 THC?

New Bloom Labs will notify you and and destroy any remaining sample in accordance with state and federal regulations.
